Steps on becoming a yoga teacher and become a full time teacher as your job eventually

If you are aspiring to become a yoga teacher or already one but are dying to become a full time teacher like me this is my story of how I did it. It has not been easy.

Embarking on this beautiful journey of becoming a yoga teacher and embracing it as your full-time career can be one of your life's most fulfilling and rewarding experiences. Just imagine sharing the transformative power of yoga with others while immersing yourself in the practice you love. It's a dream that resonates deeply with many, including you ( I mean if you are reading this), and I'm here to support you every step of the way. Let's walk hand in hand through this process as we outline a heartfelt, step-by-step guide on how you can become a yoga teacher and gracefully transition into a life of teaching and spreading light through yoga.

Step 1: Deepen Your Personal Yoga Practice To become an effective yoga teacher, having a solid foundation in your personal practice is crucial. Dedicate time to deepen your understanding of yoga asanas, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, and philosophy. Attend different yoga classes, workshops, and retreats to gain exposure to various styles and approaches. Every single teacher and studio have their own vibe.

Step 2: Choose a Yoga Teacher Training Program. Enroll in a reputable yoga teacher training (YTT) program accredited by a recognized yoga alliance. Research various programs to find one that aligns with your values, and preferred style of yoga and offers a curriculum covering teaching methodology, anatomy, philosophy, and ethics. YTT programs typically last 200 to 500 hours, providing a comprehensive education in yoga. Personally I started with the 200 YTT and did it in person in a two week training from 9 to 6 pm. Even though it was intense it was when I had a good opportunity to fully emerge into YTT. Later on the 300 YTT to complete the 500 Hours I completed it online during Covid.

Step 3: Immerse Yourself in the YTT Experience. During your yoga teacher training, fully immerse yourself in the experience. Like I said on my last step, live it and talk to fellow trainees and mentors. Engage with the teachings, participate actively, and absorb as much knowledge as possible. Embrace the opportunity to learn from experienced yoga teachers and build connections with fellow trainees. Take advantage of mentorship opportunities and seek guidance whenever needed.

Step 4: Obtain Yoga Teacher Certification. Upon completing your YTT program, obtain your yoga teacher certification. This certification demonstrates your competence and commitment to the practice. It will also be necessary when applying for teaching positions or insurance coverage as a yoga teacher.

Step 5: Gain Teaching Experience Start gaining teaching experience by offering to teach classes at local studios, gyms, and community centers, or even hosting free sessions for friends and family. Seek feedback. (FEEDBACK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT) from students and refine your teaching style accordingly. This hands-on experience will help you develop confidence, enhance your teaching skills, and build a solid reputation within the yoga community.

Step 6: Continue Your Education Yoga is a lifelong learning journey. To grow as a teacher and offer the best to your students, continue your education by attending workshops, retreats, and advanced training programs. Explore specialized areas such as prenatal yoga, yoga therapy, or specific styles that interest you. Continuous learning will inspire you and allow you to evolve as a teacher.

Step 7: Create Your Brand and Network Establishing your brand as a yoga teacher is essential to attract students and build a sustainable career. Create a professional website, social media presence, and business cards to promote your classes and services. Network with other yoga teachers, studio owners, and wellness professionals to expand your reach and collaborate on workshops or events. This was the most challenging part in this still is the hardest part but in the times we are living this is very important.

Step 8: To become a full-time yoga teacher, consider diversifying your offerings. Teach classes at multiple locations, and offer private sessions, workshops, retreats, and online courses. Exploring various avenues allows you to reach a broader audience and establish a stable income stream. For example, my main stream of income is teaching a set class in the week and creating yoga retreats for yoga instructors.

Step 9: Develop a Business Plan As you transition into a full-time yoga teacher, creating a business plan is important. Determine your target audience, pricing structure, and marketing strategies. Set goals and identify the steps needed to achieve them. A well-thought-out business plan will provide clarity and direction as you establish yourself in the yoga teaching industry.

Step 10: Embrace the Journey Becoming a full-time yoga teacher requires dedication, perseverance, and passion. Embrace the journey, knowing that it may involve challenges and setbacks. Stay committed to your personal practice, continue to learn and grow, and remain open to the transformative power of yoga. You can build a successful and fulfilling career as a yoga teacher by staying true to yourself and your purpose.
