So its your first yoga class ever! A friend is doing it and invited you or you just want to try it but don't know what to expect.
I recently took two friends to a yoga class, and even though they work out, they don't do yoga. Both of them said the same thing it wasn't what I expected. One thought yoga was all handstands, and the other was being chill.
Depending on the yoga class, you will encounter different variations. What style did you sign up?
Power Vinyasa - It's a fast pass class involving a lot of pushups, usually one breath per movement; this is one of the most famous classes around the US, and generally, depending on the teacher, you will see what type of energy you will receive. This can be a beginner if you already use to moving a lot.
Vinyasa - This is one breath per movement and is usually a class that is more manageable for a beginner; it's not slow but is less intense.
Hatha - Holding poses for longer breath people call this a slow class, but its more intense since the class is focused on alignment
Yin - This class is more a stretch and holding poses for 5 minutes, generally is more recovering and focusing more on the joints
Meditation - Sitting down with someone guiding you to be in the present moment.
So now you know what class to take and what you are wearing if it is a movement class is better to wear something more comfortable but easy to sweat. Now if it is a gentle yoga, you can wear something more flowy. And of course, barefoot.
Don't eat two hours before the class. You want to be able to focus on just the Asana (Yoga) and if you are moving fast, its not going to be good for you.
